Meet Our Staff

Operations and Administrative Team

Carolyn McCormick: President and CEO
Carolyn joined the WCVA in March 2012. She previously served as CEO of the Outer Banks Convention and Visitors Bureau, a position she held for 12 years. Under her leadership, the Outer Banks grew its annual visitation to more than 5 million visitors from 50 countries. Carolyn also led efforts to protect the Eastern Seaboard, as well as created sustainable tourism initiatives to preserve land and create multi-use, pedestrian-friendly pathways. Most recently, she served as advising consultant for the non-profit Eastern Seaboard Trust, founded by award-winning costume designer William Ivey Long. Previously in her career, Carolyn served as executive director of the Lake County, Indiana Convention and Visitor Bureau; deputy director of tourism, film and sports for the State of Indiana; and managing director of culture, leisure and recreation services for the city of Lubbock, Texas.

Jason McGill: Chief Financial/Operations Officer
Jason is a certified public accountant and holds a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Walla Walla College in Washington State, and a Master of Business Administration degree from California State University, San Bernardino. Before joining the WCVA, McGill worked at Gary McGee and Company as a senior associate.

Each member of the WCVA staff brings a high level of knowledge and expertise to their respective positions.

Marketing and Communications Team

Sylke Neal-Finnegan, APR: Vice President of Marketing & Communications
Sylke joined the WCVA June 2007, and oversees the WCVA’s marketing department, serves as editor-in-chief and is responsible for all marketing initiatives, including media relations, advertising and online content. An accredited public relations practitioner with a Bachelor of Arts degree in communication studies from the University of Nevada Las Vegas, Sylke has more than 20 years of tourism public relations and marketing experience. Before joining the WCVA, she worked for a number of tourism-related businesses, including high-profile casino resorts and the Las Vegas Convention & Visitors Authority.

Jackie Hagan: Marketing & Communications Manager
Jackie joined the WCVA in July 2013. A Bay Area native, Jackie is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin with a degree in English and anthropology. After graduation, Jackie completed stints for a ghostwriting firm, literary agency, and internet start-up. Her love of words, editing, and storytelling were further strengthened by earning a MFA in creative writing from Oregon State University. Prior to joining the WCVA team, Jackie worked as a communications specialist for the national professional association, NIRSA, which provided research and development for wellness professionals on college campuses.

Christopher Glawe: Graphic Designer
Chris joined the WCVA in January 2011 as the graphic designer. He designs all of the WCVA’s print and online ads, as well as marketing collateral. Chris is a native Oregonian, but spent the last 20 years living and working as a graphic designer in New York City. During his time in the Big Apple, he earned his Associate in occupational studies in graphic design from Pratt Institute, and later earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts in graphic design from the School of Visual Arts. When Chris isn’t designing he can be found reading comic books, visiting art galleries and creating art projects.

Tracy Trathen: Website Coordinator
Tracy joined the WCVA in July 2018. Tracy has more than 15 years of web design experience and more than 25 years of graphic design experience. She has a Bachelor of Science from the Art Institute, and she has worked as a website content manager and designer, tech support engineer, and graphic designer. In her free time, Tracy is a member of a small vocal ensemble, “Trouble with Trebles,” and loves to design things for her friends. She also is an avid hockey fan, spending many evenings during the hockey season cheering on the Portland Winterhawks.

Kailee Pence: Administrative and Marketing Coordinator
A University of Oregon graduate, Kailee holds a Bachelor’s degree in journalism with an emphasis in electronic media, and a second degree in marketing. After graduation, she worked for a boutique PR firm, A.wordsmith in Portland supporting ongoing strategic communication campaigns. She also worked at Nike in both the events center and innovation department. Her most recent role was at the Portland Expo Center supporting the team and the development of contracts. As a Washington County resident, she enjoys shopping at the Beaverton Farmers Market, running on the Fanno Creek Trail and sampling local craft ciders. Kailee joined the WCVA in September 2018.

Sales & Tourism Development Team

Josh Sanders: Vice President of Sales and Tourism Development
Josh joined the WCVA in October 2017, and oversees the WCVA’s tourism sales and development efforts. He has 20 years of experience in the hotel industry in management and sales. Most recently, he was the general manager of the Aloft Hotel in Hillsboro, and also served a general manager of some of the Tualatin Valley’s premier hotel properties. Josh earned a Bachelor of Science in business administration from the University of Oregon and a Master of Business Administration from George Fox University.

Ariel Kanable, Tourism Development Coordinator
Ariel recently graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in business administration from Concordia University, where she also played women’s soccer and helped the university earn a national championship in 2013. Ariel serves as a coach for the Westside Development Program for the Westside Timbers Premier Soccer Club, a competitive soccer club. Ariel first joined the WCVA as a summer intern in 2015.
