Five Ways To Get a Free Credit Score (No Trials!)

Where to get a free credit scoreUpdated 2017. As noted, the government requires the credit bureaus to provide you a free credit report once every 12 months from AnnualCreditReport.com. Ideally, you should check in more frequently. The services listed below provide you a free credit score updated throughout the year either daily, weekly, or monthly. Most offer additional data taken directly from your credit reports, while some even offer free daily credit monitoring or free identity protection services.

As of OCTOBER 2017, all three major credit bureaus are covered: TransUnion, Equifax, and Experian. You do not need to already have a specific credit card. Being ad-supported, they can do so without the hassle of annoying trial membership offers, requiring credit card numbers, or having to remember to cancel anything.

Where to get a free credit score

CreditSesame.com offers a free credit score every month, based on your TransUnion credit report (VantageScore). They used Experian data in the past, but it appears that most members have been migrated over to Transunion. Score range is 300-850. They only require the last 4 digits of your Social Security Number. No trial or credit card required.

  • Free daily credit monitoring. Credit Sesame also offers free daily credit monitoring of your TransUnion data, with alerts coming via e-mail, text, or smartphone app. This service tracks more than 40 different credit activities such as a balance change, address change or when a new account is opened.
  • Free identity protection and restoration services. Credit Sesame also includes $50,000 in identity theft insurance and access to identity restoration support in their free membership level.

Where to get a free credit score

CreditKarma.com offers you two free credit scores, based on your TransUnion and Equifax credit reports and updated weekly (VantageScore). Score range is 300-850. They only require the last 4 digits of your Social Security Number. No trial or credit card required. The two-in-one feature is nice.

  • Free credit monitoring. Credit Karma also offers free e-mail credit monitoring alerts of your TransUnion data.

Where to get a free credit score

FreeCreditScore.com offers a free credit score every month, based on your Experian credit report (FICO 08). Score range is 300-850. They require your full Social Security Number. No trial or credit card required.

  • Free credit monitoring. They also offer free e-mail credit monitoring alerts of your Experian data.

Where to get a free credit score

WalletHub.com offers a free credit score based on your TransUnion credit report (VantageScore), updated daily. They also provide access to your full TransUnion credit report daily (although it may not be updated that often). Score range is 300-850. They only require the last 4 digits of your Social Security Number. No trial or credit card required.

Your Existing Credit Card

I wouldn t sign up for a new credit card just for a credit score, but if you already have one, check to see if it offers a free monthly credit score as a perk:

Some may point out that many of the scores above are not FICO scores. No, they are not FICO scores because Fair Isaac charges more money for them and these companies can t cover those costs with their advertising. However, these free credit scores can still be very useful for tracking changes and general trends in your credit history. Free credit monitoring is also a great way to track any big changes including fraudulent activity. There is value in getting an e-mail notification whenever a new account is added to my report.

How to Get Your Credit Report for Free

Your credit report include information on your address, the number of credit accounts you have, whether you pay your bills on time, and whether you have been sued or filed from bankruptcy. Lenders use it when determining whether to lend to you and at what rates. The United States Federal Trade Commission (FTC) recommends that you check your credit report at least once a year to prevent identity theft and to make sure your information is being accurately reported. [1] Under the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), you are legally entitled to at least one report every 12 months from each of the three major credit bureaus, and the process to obtain them – whether online or by mail – is quick and easy.

Three Credit Bureaus Agencies, free credit reporting agencies.#Free #credit #reporting #agencies

Information on the 3 National Credit Reporting Agencies or Credit Bureaus

The 3 national credit reporting agencies in the United States are Equifax, Experian, and Trans Union. Experian was formerly known as TRW. A fourth national credit reporting agency named Innovis exists, but does not currently seem to factor into decisions for denials of credit, insurance or employment. It is more in a development stage.

To contact the 3 national credit reporting agencies:

The three national credit agencies may be contacted directly at:

Equifax

TransUnion

Experian

Atlanta, GA 30374

Chester, PA 19022

These national credit agencies are for-profit companies owned by their shareholders. They are not government entities or funded by the government. There are also independent, non-national, local credit bureaus throughout the country that are generally affiliated with one of the 3 national credit reporting agencies. Local bureaus are sometimes for-profit companies and sometimes non-profit associations of lender/members in a particular geographical area.

The 3 national credit reporting agencies are competitors of each other, and they do not normally share their credit information except in special cases. That is why it is important to order a credit report from all three.

Credit agencies or bureaus gather their consumer credit information by soliciting creditors such as credit card companies, banks, and lenders to join their systems and contribute their credit experience on consumers to the systems. In return for submitting information to the systems, creditor members may use the system to obtain credit information on consumers to approve credit decisions or review existing consumer accounts.

Credit agencies are generally regulated by the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), which is the Federal law generally covering consumer reporting agencies including credit reporting in this country. Individual states may also have their own versions of the law.

Under Federal law credit reporting companies known as CRAs (consumer reporting agencies) have numerous responsibilities to protect consumers and their credit information. A Summary of the FCRA is at http://www.creditreporting.com/fair-credit-reporting-act/index.html .

Opt Out Number For List Sales by the National Credit Reporting Agencies

IN COMPLIANCE WITH THE FAIR CREDIT REPORTING ACT OF 1996.

The credit reporting industry has designated a single toll free number that will allow consumers to opt out of promotional mailing lists sold by credit reporting agencies. The system is an interactive voice mail that requests information necessary to opt out of such lists.

Consumers should call (888) 5 OPT OUT and follow the voice prompt. Once the information is recorded, an e-mail is sent to the three bureaus daily and posted to consumer files. The number is available 24 hours a day.

Credit Agencies To Ease Up On Medical Debt Reporting

Free credit reporting agencies

Half of all the debt that appears on credit reports is related to medical expenses, according to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. PeopleImages/Getty Images hide caption

Half of all the debt that appears on credit reports is related to medical expenses, according to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.

Millions of Americans have medical debt that’s hurting their credit. The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau estimated it’s as many as 43 million people, according to data released in late 2014.

Now, some relief may be on the way.

Changes in the way credit agencies report and evaluate medical debt are in the works. They should reduce some of the painful financial consequences of having a health care problem.

Starting Sept. 15, the three major credit reporting agencies — Experian, Equifax and TransUnion — will set a 180-day waiting period before including medical debt on a consumer’s credit report. The six-month period is intended to ensure there’s enough time to resolve disputes with insurers and delays in payment.

In addition, the credit bureaus will remove medical debt from consumers’ credit reports once it’s paid by an insurer. Some credit scoring models don’t penalize paid medical debt from any source.

The changes grew out of two efforts by states to aid consumers: a 2015 settlement negotiated by New York State Attorney General Eric Schneiderman and the three major credit reporting agencies, and an agreement shortly afterward between the agencies and 31 other state attorneys general. The changes will be instituted nationwide.

For many consumers, an unexpected health care calamity can quickly burgeon into a financial calamity. Just over half of all the debt that appears on credit reports is related to medical expenses, the CFPB found in its 2014 study. For 15 million consumers, medical debt was the only blemish on their credit report.

Perhaps this isn’t surprising given the growth in the number of people with high-deductible health plans and significant out-of-pocket financial responsibilities for health care, says Chad Mulvany, policy director at the Healthcare Financial Management Association, a membership organization for finance professionals.

“More people who typically would have been a good credit risk are now saddled with big bills,” he says.

The 180-day waiting period is “a big step forward toward a more equitable process,” says Julie Kalkowski, executive director of the Financial Hope Collaborative at Creighton University in Omaha, Neb., which provides financial education and coaching to low-income, single mothers.

Rather than attempting to collect past-due medical bills themselves, hospitals and doctors’ offices typically engage collection agencies to chase down payments. But the timing on when providers take that step varies widely.

“Without a standardized process, some bills get sent to collections because they’re 30 or 60 days past due, as opposed to six months,” Kalkowski says, citing several of the women who went through the Creighton program. The total amount owed in most cases was under $150, she says.

In fact, the average amount of medical debt in collections was $579, compared with $1,000 for non-medical debt, the CFPB found in its study. But even small amounts of debt can lead to credit problems. A bad credit score can prevent someone from getting a car loan, credit card or a mortgage, for example.

Lenders use credit reports and credit scores to evaluate the risk that someone won’t repay a loan. The credit-scoring companies build algorithms that use the data in people’s credit reports to assign a three-digit credit score, typically between 300 and 850, that summarizes someone’s credit risk based on the information in a credit report at that time. Higher scores indicate lower risk.

Credit-scoring companies like FICO and VantageScore have been adjusting their formulas to account for the fact that medical debt isn’t necessarily an accurate predictor of whether someone is a good credit risk.

“Those with medical accounts are less likely to default on their accounts than non-medical accounts,” says Ethan Dornhelm, vice president of scores and analytics at FICO.

To address this issue, newer FICO and VantageScore models differentiate between medical and non-medical debt. People with medical debt in collections receive a smaller penalty than those with non-medical collections, says Sarah Davies, senior vice president at VantageScore Solutions.

Under FICO9, the newest model, someone whose only major credit blot is one or more medical collections would see their median score improve roughly 25 points over older versions, says FICO’s Dornhelm.

But there’s a catch: Many banks and other lenders haven’t yet adopted the newer versions of the credit-scoring models. So even though medical debt shouldn’t have as strong an impact on someone’s credit score now, in many cases it still could.

What’s a consumer to do? You can’t control which scoring model a lender uses, but you can check your credit report regularly to make sure it’s accurate. Consumers are entitled to a free credit report from each credit reporting company annually.

“If there’s medical debt that’s been paid, it should be removed going forward, and if it’s less than six months old, find out when it’s going to be removed,” advises VantageScore’s Davies.

Debit bureaus specialize in collecting information on accounts held at banking institutions, such as checking and savings accounts, and the information collected by debit bureaus do not appear in an Experian Credit Report.

Do you have to place a fraud alert with each credit reporting company?

When you request a fraud alert or security alert be added with any of the three major credit reporting companies, the company you contacted will notify the other two and alerts will be added with those agencies as well.

    Credit basics

Why can Credit Scores be different for each of the 3 bureaus?

If the scores vary based on the same scoring model, then Credit Report information could be different at each of the 3 bureaus. For example, one bureau may have 6 hard inquiries on its credit report, another may have 2, and the last bureau may have 4. Since the number of hard inquiries is a factor in calculating your Credit Score, this could produce different score numbers, even though it is based on the same scoring model.

Why should I check all 3 bureau Credit Reports and Credit Scores?

Information reported to each of the 3 bureaus can be different and the individual creditors furnishing data may also be different, meaning one creditor may only report to one or only two of the three bureaus. Lenders, such as mortgage companies are not required by law to report account information to each of the 3 bureaus. Checking each of your 3 Credit Reports gives you a comprehensive view so that you can easily identify differences that could impact your credit standing.

FICO Scores are developed by Fair Isaac Corporation. The FICO Score provided by ConsumerInfo.com, Inc., also referred to as Experian Consumer Services (“ECS”), in Experian CreditWorks SM , Credit Tracker SM and/or your free Experian membership (as applicable) is based on FICO Score 8, unless otherwise noted. Many but not all lenders use FICO Score 8.

In addition to the FICO Score 8, ECS may offer and provide other base or industry-specific FICO Scores (such as FICO Auto Scores and FICO Bankcard Scores). The other FICO Scores made available are calculated from versions of the base and industry-specific FICO Score models. There are many different credit scoring models that can give a different assessment of your credit rating and relative risk (risk of default) for the same credit report. Your lender or insurer may use a different FICO Score than FICO Score 8 or such other base or industry-specific FICO Score, or another type of credit score altogether. Just remember that your credit rating is often the same even if the number is not.

For some consumers, however, the credit rating of FICO Score 8 (or other FICO Score) could vary from the score used by your lender. The statements that “90% of top lenders use FICO Scores” and “FICO Scores are used in 90% of credit decisions” are based on a third-party study of all versions of FICO Scores sold to lenders, including but not limited to scores based on FICO Score 8. Base FICO Scores (including the FICO Score 8) range from 300 to 850. Industry-specific FICO Scores range from 250-900. Higher scores represent a greater likelihood that you’ll pay back your debts so you are viewed as being a lower credit risk to lenders. A lower FICO Score indicates to lenders that you may be a higher credit risk.

There are three different major credit reporting agencies — the Experian credit bureau, TransUnion ® and Equifax ® — that maintain a record of your credit history known as your credit report. Your FICO Score is based on the information in your credit report at the time it is requested. Your credit report information can vary from agency to agency because some lenders report your credit history to only one or two of the agencies. So your FICO Score can vary if the information they have on file for you is different. Since the information in your report can change over time, your FICO Score may also change.

    Updated August 2017

Checking your credit report is in good shape is important if you want to get a mortgage, credit card, loan and more. The big credit reference agencies try to lure you in with free month-long trials, but as you can now see all your credit reports for free, there’s no need to pay at all.

This guide explains how you can check your credit reports for free or even how to get paid to check them. Plus, we’ve launched our revolutionary free MoneySavingExpert.com Credit Club which allows you to check your Experian Credit Report for free.

    In this guide.

Why you should check and what you should check

There are three credit reference agencies, Equifax, Experian and CallCredit, and they all hold information on you which lenders use. Even small errors can cause problems, so it’s important you check through your credit report. Most of this is explained in detail in our How to Boost Your Credit Rating guide, but below is a quick checklist.

    3. If you no longer have joint accounts with someone, ensure you financially delink (ie, separate).

    4. Always check your credit reports after rejection. Read why here.

    5. Cancel unused credit and store cards. Find out why unused cards can count against you.

Should I check all three credit reports?

If you’re doing a specific application for a company and you know which credit reference agency it uses, it’s obviously a priority to check that one. But as a general housekeeping rule we suggest you check all three credit reports at least once a year, because they all have an impact.

Don’t worry about over-checking your credit report. It’s not recorded on it, and it’s something that only you and the credit reference agency will know about. Check EVERY detail and do it regularly. PLUS always check before making any big applications to minimise your risk of rejection. It can all be done online, it’s quick and easy.

However, if time is short and you can only use one, then choose Experian (the biggest) or CheckMyFile (checks Equifax and Callcredit). It’s a good idea to do a check-up roughly every 12 to 18 months. Always do one in good time before making any important applications.

Your right to check your file (costs Ј2)

The most important thing to tell you is that you have a legal right to check your credit report. This is because it’s important you know the information that companies have on you. Here’s how to check, however before you read it please see our information on how to check for free and how to get paid to do it.

The checks are all done online so they’re quick and easy to do (and are much more efficient than the old mail-only method).

The statutory report contains your personal details, info on financial links to other people, whether you’re on the electoral roll, the credit accounts you have, any missed payments or defaults, and a list of other recent searches of your credit report (though these only stay on your file for a maximum of one year). All three credit reference agencies will provide you with a statutory report:

We’ve launched our revolutionary, FREE MoneySavingExpert.com Credit Club – a brand new way for you to keep track of your credit record. You can sign up here – please give us feedback on it. Here are the six things it does:

    • We’ve launched the ability to get your full Experian Credit Report for FREE within Credit Club. See below for full details on how this will work.
    • You’ll get a free Experian Credit Score. This gives you an indicator of how lenders see you when assessing you for credit applications.

    • Our unique Credit Hit Rate – this shows your chances of success, as a percentage, of grabbing our top cards and loans.
    • Eligibility tool to show your best credit deals. It reveals the likelihood of you getting top credit cards or loans.
    • Your credit profile explained. It shows the key factors affecting your score and how to improve them.

How to check your full credit report for FREE

    Free credit report online instantly

Credit reference agencies used to make all their money from selling data to lenders. The idea was to help lenders predict your behaviour, which allowed them to assess whether or not you were a good person to lend to.

Then some bright spark at the credit reference agencies realised they could generate a business called “consumer credit management”. It meant they could start to sell you monitoring products and all the other sorts of data, including your “credit score”, for the first time. You may ask why they sell it to you? Well, it makes them money, and sometimes up to Ј180 a year.

It used to be that the only way you could check your score for free was to sign up to 30-day free trials of these services, and then cancel before the time’s up so you don’t get charged. Yet, now, you can check your report on all three agencies for free every month – though they’ll make money if you apply for credit cards and loans through them.

Which way you choose to check your report will depend on what’s most important to you – a full monitoring service free for 30 days, or a more basic, but free-for-life service. Here’s how to do it, broken down by agency.

    Credit Score resources

What are the different credit scoring ranges?

Your FICO Score 8 powered by Experian data can range from 300 to 850. Learn what the different ranges are, what they mean to you and lenders, and what factors contribute to your FICO Score.

How Often Does Your Credit Score Change?

The information in your credit report is frequently updated, and as your credit information changes, your Credit Score will frequently change, too. Credit Scores are only updated when you or a lender requests one.

Why Your Credit Score May Be Low

Credit scoring systems can consider hundreds of factors from your credit history. They weigh your payment history, utilization rate, length of your credit history, the kinds of credit you have, what you’ve done recently with credit and many other details.

    Credit Score basics

    What is a Credit Score?

A Credit Score is a number lenders use to help decide how likely it is that they will be repaid on time if they give a person a loan or a credit card. Your FICO Score 8 ranges from 300 to 850 and is based on calculated factors from information in your credit report.

Why does a Credit Score matter?

Credit Scores represent the risk that lenders use in the repayment of consumer debt. Based on your risk level, a Credit Score can help determine if you qualify for a loan and mean the difference in hundreds or thousands in savings based on the interest rate offered.

What types of information can negatively impact a Credit Score?

There are many things that can potentially negatively impact a Credit Score, but include the number and severity of payments, the type and number of accounts along with their age, total debt, and public records such as bankruptcy, tax liens, and civil judgments.

What is a good Credit Score?

A FICO Score between 670 and 739 is considered to be good and is within the median score range. A FICO Score above 800 indicates an exceptional score and consumers in this range may have more favorable terms and an easier approval process with new credit.

When looking to get a credit card, there are a variety of things you should consider. If you want a rewards card to use frequently, you might not mind paying a $100 or $200 annual fee. You should also consider the regular APR (as opposed to the introductory rate) and the interest rate. A good interest rate is dependent on how you will use the card. For example, a 20% interest rate is fine if you plan on paying off the balance every month.

It pays to ask these kinds of questions before you fill out the application form. Here are 9 questions you want answered before you sign on the dotted line.

The “very first question” the consumer should ask is, “Why am I applying for this card? Why do I need this card?” says Bruce McClary, media director for ClearPoint Credit Counseling Solutions, a nonprofit affiliated with the National Foundation for Credit Counseling

Some positive reasons: The card has low or no fees, a lower interest rate or offers a rewards program that suits your spending habits. “It has to make sense, and it has to fit into your overall lifestyle,” McClary says.

Do you pay off your credit card balances every month? If so, “you don’t care what the interest rate is because you won’t pay any,” says Ric Edelman, author of “The Truth About Money.” “But you care about the (annual) fee,” he says.

If you run a balance, you want the lowest rate you can get, even if that comes with an annual fee.

One clue to your usage: “Look at your past history,” says Edelman. “Because what you’ve done before is what you will be doing.”

If you’re shopping for a card, chances are you’re comparing card terms. But if an issuer sends you an offer, it’s tempting to apply and see what you get.

“It’s really difficult to pick one (in isolation),” says Kelly Rogers, chief development officer for the Consumer Credit Counseling Service of Orange County and adjunct faculty at Chapman University. “If someone just shows you one car, how do you know if it’s the right car for you?”

Her advice: Do a side-by-side comparison of several different cards before you apply.

Don’t be afraid to plug the card name, “complaints” and “customer service” into your favorite search engine. “I go through and see who has the least amount of complaints and issues,” says Rogers.

Some cards will give you a range of rates you could get, but often that window is pretty wide, says Nick Bourke, director of the Safe Credit Card Project at The Pew Charitable Trusts. Other cards may offer a specific rate (or terms) and either approve or reject you.

If you’re operating totally in the dark, you have another option: Apply by phone and push for an answer on your rate and credit line before the account is opened.

While there are no guarantees, sometimes you can get an answer, says Bourke.

“I’ve actually done this myself,” he says, admitting “you do have to go pretty far in the process.”

You may have to ask for the department that’s actually evaluating your application to get an answer, he says.

“The thing that you want to do is when you’re talking to the person on the phone taking your application is you want to push them as hard as you can to get your APR and credit line,” Bourke says. Then, once you have the information and before the account is opened in your name, “you can say yes or no at that point,” he says.

According to the Credit Card Accountability, Responsibility and Disclosure Act of 2009, if a card offers a lower interest rate during an introductory period, the promotional rate has to last at least six months. While that introductory offer may be appealing, the regular rate is what you’re really buying.

So find out when the introductory APR expires and what the new rate will be. You can find this information online in the terms and conditions for the card or you can ask a service representative.

Another smart question: How long is that grace period? “Some cards start charging interest immediately,” says Edelman. A card can have different grace periods for balance transfers and cash advances than it does for purchases.

You can find information about the grace period in the credit card offer, thanks to federal rules that took effect in 2010. Look for a summary table of rate and fee disclosures, which will include a statement that explains how to avoid paying interest.

If you’re getting the card for points or rewards, this is one you definitely need to ask, says Josh Frank, senior researcher with the Center for Responsible Lending. Some issuers will revoke rewards if you’re late with a payment by even one day, he says.

“A lot of times, the answer they will give you is that they can take away or reduce your rewards for any reason,” he says. While that’s true, the issuer will have a policy on revoking or reducing points, and that’s what you want to ask about, he says. Under what specific circumstances would they reduce or eliminate a customer’s points?

In most cases, “this is one the customer service agent should know the answer to,” he says.

Some card issuers use your purchase records to assess your ongoing creditworthiness.

That means if you suddenly use your card to purchase retread tires, pay for a session with a marriage counselor or make a purchase at a market on a sketchy side of town, you could see your APR climb or your credit limit fall, says Frank. If you see this practice as an invasion of privacy, ask beforehand if the issuer does this, he says.

How to phrase it: Can my transactions ever be used in rating my credit risk?

And that’s one question the customer service representative “might not know the answer to,” says Frank. “You might want to ask them to transfer you to the credit department manager.”

If you are guaranteeing a card account by co-signing for a college student, ask if you will be on the hook for the debt after the other party turns 21, says Chi Chi Wu, staff attorney for the National Consumer Law Center.

Many times, “there is nothing to prevent the issuers from saying you’re going to be guaranteeing this card 15 years from now — long after junior is out of college,” she says.

In addition, find out exactly what has to be done to get you off the account. Are you free to complete those steps yourself? Or will you need the cooperation of someone who might not want you — and those charging privileges — to go away?

Federal regulations limit your liability for unauthorized credit card charges to $50 if you report it within two business days. The longer you wait, the more you may lose. Many issuers cap losses at zero dollars, provided you follow a few rules. So find out how the card would handle charges you didn’t make, says McClary.

Also, does the issuer monitor usage and shut down the card if it sees out-of-the-ordinary charges or spending locations? That feature can be great if you always use the card for the same types of purchases in the same geographic area, but cumbersome if you’re getting the card for travel.

While it sounds counterproductive, you want to ask some detailed questions on how the issuer will treat you if you run into financial problems, says McClary.

Will you lose points or benefits? Will you be hit with late fees or a penalty rate? Ask what those penalties are or look online at the terms and conditions for the card.

Some issuers have programs to slash interest temporarily for customers who get behind, he says. Others don’t. So find out ahead of time what kind of programs the issuer offers that will help you rehabilitate your account and restore your original terms, McClary says.

Ask about the “worst case scenario,” he says. “When do they consider an account to be charged off? And when do they send an account to a collection agency?”

“It may be a little tough to get a hold of that information because it might not be readily available at the customer service level,” says McClary. “You may have to punch it up a level.”

How to check your full credit report for FREE

    Free credit report score

How to check your full credit report for FREE

    Free credit report and score

Free Annual Credit Report, Online Credit Check, Credit Score, Order, yearly free credit report.#Yearly #free #credit #report

Free Annual Credit Report, Online Credit Check, Credit Score

Free annual credit report monitoring can help you maintain a good credit score and secure identity. Both are very important elements of a healthy financial future for you and your family. Under USA credit report law you are entitled to request and receive a free credit report check every 12 months from each of the three main reporting agencies.

What is a credit report and what purpose does it serve?

Simply put, a credit report is a documented record of all your credit use activities. Whenever you have a credit card or consumer loan, ongoing notes of how you use those financial instruments is kept on file by credit reporting agencies. Your credit history tells a lot about how you operate fiscally. This is of great interest to a company considering you for a new car loan or home mortgage for example. If you have paid all your bills on time and paid off previous loans as agreed, a new lender is more likely to approve your request and offer you better finance rates in the future.

You are entitled to receive a free credit report by law from the three credit report companies Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion. This is not a free government credit check as many people believe but it is mandated by law. It is important to review your free credit report with score from each credit reporting company at least on an annual basis, preferably more often especially if you are planning on buying a house, a new car, or other large financed purchase.

Several companies also offer credit report monitoring services for a nominal fee. Although not always necessary, the convenience of having your credit files monitored for irregularities and automatically receiving credit file updates can be reassuring and a great help to many people. Totally free credit reports are available so you can check your credit annually but you should also at least be aware of and consider these additional services.

How do you request free credit report?

Get free credit reports by contacting each of the three main reporting agencies:

    Atlanta, GA 30348

(Experian was formerly known as TRW)

    Allen, TX 75013-2104

    Consumer Disclosure Center

    Chester, PA 19022

    (800) 916-8800 or (800) 888-4213

You will need to provide detailed personal information such as your name, current address, previous addresses, a telephone number, your US social security number, and date of birth. Also, in order to verify your identity additional information such as a copy of your driver s license, utility bill, or bank account statement may be required. Each agency has its specific requirements.

A good credit record starts with using credit wisely. But sometimes errors or inaccuracies can appear on your credit record which can negatively affect your personal or business credit record. And today with the growing regularity of credit card fraud and identity theft it is more important than ever to continuously monitor and protect you good name and credit history.

So don t procrastinate any longer get started today with your free yearly credit check.

Check your credit health and then get your credit back into shape if it s not rating well. Now is a great time to give yourself a credit checkup.

Consumers will lose access to a key version of the credit score many banks use to make lending decisions.

I suggest ordering your credit scores right now. This cannot wait another day because one of the credit scoring bureaus, Experian, is going to cut off your access to your score.

Yearly Horoscopes 2017 Cancer – Free Horoscope by John Hayes, yearly free credit report.#Yearly #free #credit #report

    CANCER YEARLY HOROSCOPE 2017

    Yearly free credit report

Yearly free credit reportCancer 22nd June – 22nd Jul y

2017 will be different for different signs because

as the planets travel through the 12 signs of the

zodiac they make harmonious or stressful alignments

to planets and points in those zodiac signs. The 4 cardinal

signs, Aries, Cancer, your Sun, Libra and Capricorn, will continue to experience the most challenging aspects and therefore the most change of over the next few years, due mainly to the continued presence of Uranus in Aries and Pluto in Capricorn. Change is a natural part of life and should be embraced and facilitated rather than ignored or resisted.

    Saturn’s influence in 2017

Sober Saturn will remain in Sagittarius until the end of the year when it moves into Capricorn. Sagittarius is the area of your solar chart associated with your workload, habits, daily routine and health, or lack thereof. Therefore, with Saturn in Sagittarius until December 2017 it looks like you could have a lot on your plate and so it s important to develop efficient and effective habits and routines. Managing your time, establishing clear boundaries, getting enough sleep, adopting a healthy, plant based diet and learning to say no, should form part of your strategy to enable you to remain productive without becoming overloaded. Otherwise you risk blowing a fuse or two.

    Jupiter’s influence in 2017

Jupiter takes twelve years to travel the 12 signs of the zodiac, spending approximately 12 months in each zodiac sign. Jupiter entered Libra, the domestic area of your solar chart, in the autumn of 2016 and will remain in Libra until Jupiter moves into Scorpio in October 2017. Jupiter is considered the greater benefic and so with Jupiter in Libra, this promises to be a favourable period for domestic matters. Therefore, make the most of opportunities to improve your home and living situation and to build bridges with family and loved ones.

The Nodes of the Moon’s influence in 2017

The Moon s Nodes, the North Node of the Moon and the South Node of the Moon, are always opposite one another. Approximately every 18 months or so, they change zodiac sign. In May, the North Node will move into Leo and the South Node will move into the sign opposite Leo, Aquarius. The North Node is orientated towards the future, where we re going, and so points to an area which we need to embrace and develop, where greater opportunities to develop our potential awaits us. The South is associated with the past, where we are coming from, and is considered a place of release. An area of life where we may have become too comfortable, complacent, indulgent or a creature of habit and routine.

Uranus is associated with change and upheaval, often sudden and unexpected. Uranus wakes us up from our narrow view of things and brings with it a new perspective that may actually make clear and common sense to us afterwards although prior to its influence in our lives we didn t notice, or failed to notice, what we later consider an obvious and natural course of events. Uranus takes approximately 84 years to travel the 12 signs of the zodiac, spending, about 7 years in each zodiac sign and so therefore is considered a background influence for most people until it triggers some of the more personal points in the horoscope. Since Uranus is in Aries, the area of your solar chart associated with your career, vocation, status and dealings with those in positions of influence and authority, this could be the area from which the catalyst for change appears. Since, it could be argued that we are what we do, changes in your work, workplace or industry may also bring about changes in you. Alternatively, changes within you could then bring about changes in what you do and how you do it.

Pluto travels very slowly through the zodiac, taking approximately 248 years to travel the 12 signs of the zodiac. As with Uranus, Pluto is associated with change. However, Pluto and Uranus are not the same. The change Pluto signifies is associated with the natural process of death and rebirth, something we see and experience around us all the time, such as the cycle of decay, death, rebirth and renewal that characterises the changing seasons. So to does Pluto affect us all to varying degrees at varying times in our lives. Pluto has a cleansing influence. Pluto cleans away that which has served its purpose or role in our lives and needs to be make way for new life, growth and new experiences. Change is an inevitable part of life and is more difficult or stressful, the more we try to hold on or resit it. Pluto can give us an opportunity to discover, or rediscover, hidden talents and resources within us, talents which may now demand a stage or a place in our lives to be expressed. Pluto can be the key to making the changes ahead that work in our favour.

Neptune will be in Pisces throughout 2017 and beyond. Like both Uranus and Pluto, Neptune is a considered an outer planet. Neptune is also slow moving, taking 165 years to travel the 12 signs of the zodiac and so, like Uranus and Pluto, Neptune’s influence reflects social, political and cultural changes that shape and colour the course of history. We experience these outer planets in a personal way when they touch or trigger the sensitive points in our horoscopes. Pisces, like Cancer, your Sun sign, and Scorpio, is a water sign and so promises to bring its more positive aspect to bare upon you. Neptune more than any other planet is not of this world.

How to check your credit report – Money Advice Service, how to check your credit score for free.#How #to #check #your #credit #score #for #free

How to check your credit report

Have you ever wondered how a bank or other lender decides whether to give you credit? One of the tools they use is your credit report. This tells them about your credit history and helps them assess how much of a risk lending to you will be.

    Who compiles credit reports?

In the UK, companies called ‘credit reference agencies’ (CRAs) compile information on how well you manage credit and make your payments.

    The three main CRAs are:

Each of them holds a file on you, called a credit report (or credit file), although the information might differ between CRAs.

    What’s in your credit report?

Your credit report typically holds the following information:

    • A list of your credit accounts. This includes bank and credit card accounts as well as other credit arrangements such as outstanding loan agreements or utility company debts. They will show whether you have made repayments on time and in full. Items such as missed or late payments or defaults will stay on your credit report for at least six years.
    • Details of any people who are financially linked to you, for example because you’ve taken out joint credit.
    • Public record information such as County Court Judgments (called ‘Decrees’ in Scotland), house repossessions, bankruptcies and individual voluntary arrangements. These stay on your report for at least six years.
    • Your current account provider, but only details of overdrafts.
    • Whether you are on the electoral register.
    • Your name and date of birth.
    • Your current and previous addresses.
    • If you’ve committed a fraud (or someone has stolen your identity and committed fraud) this will be held on your file under the CIFAS section.

Your credit report doesn’t carry other personal information such as your salary, religion or any criminal record.

Who looks at your credit report?

When you apply for credit the process usually involves you giving your permission to the credit provider to check your credit report.

The term ‘credit provider’ doesn’t only include banks and credit card companies but also mail-order companies and, for example, providers of mobile telephone services – if you have a phone contract (but not if you’re on a pay as you go deal).

Employers and landlords can also check your credit report, although they’ll usually only see public record information such as:

    • Electoral register information
    • Insolvency records, and
    • County Court Judgements (or Decrees in Scotland)

Where to check your credit report

All CRAs have a statutory obligation to provide you with a copy of your credit report for £2.

You can access the report online or by asking for a written copy.

You can find out more about how to get a written copy of your credit report from the Information Commissioners Office.

Callcredit (under the brand name Noddle) and ClearScore opens in new window (who base their service on Equifax data) also offer free access to your credit report for life.

So it might be worth just applying for this rather than paying for a statutory report.

It is often worth getting a copy of your credit report from all three main CRAs if you’ve not applied for it before or if you’ve not checked it for quite some time.

That’s because they might have different information from different credit providers (although there is quite a lot of overlap between them).

    Full credit report services

    Remember

Be aware that repeatedly applying for credit can harm your chances of getting credit, as lots of credit searches might indicate you’re having problems, but you can apply for your credit record as often as you like.

You can get free 30-day trials of more comprehensive credit checking services from Experian and Equifax, which include your full credit report.

However, you normally have to give your credit or debit card details when you sign up to the free trial and money will be taken from your account unless you cancel in time.

    What’s a credit score?

Your credit score is an assessment by a particular lender of how good a credit risk you are, based on its own criteria and typically including CRA information.

A CRA might also provide your ‘credit score’ for a fee, but this is just an indication based on the information they hold and isn’t the same as an individual lender’s score.

A good credit score is no guarantee you’ll be able to borrow money, as different lenders have different criteria for choosing customers.

    How lenders use credit reports

Bear in mind that different lenders look for different things when looking at your credit report and deciding whether to lend to you.

When should you check your credit report?

    Did you know?

Many companies will choose not to lend to you if you haven’t always managed your credit well and don’t have a good credit rating, while others might lend but charge you a higher rate of interest or offer you a smaller amount of credit.

If you are applying for a loan, mortgage, credit card or other borrowing then it might be a good idea to check your credit report first, if you haven’t looked at it for some time. .

In any case, it makes sense to check it from time to time to make sure there are no mistakes or that you haven’t missed any payments without realising it.

You can check your credit report as often as you like and it won’t affect your credit rating or credit score.

It’s normally only when you apply for credit and lenders search your credit report that there’s a record left on your credit report.

If you’re shopping around, and not yet ready to apply, make that clear and ask for a quotation or ‘quotation search’.

This is where a lender searches your credit record, to decide whether you’re eligible or to provide a quote, but without leaving a ‘footprint’ on your file.

That way, your credit record won’t be affected. Ask the lender whether they offer this.

Improving your credit rating and correcting your credit report

It is possible to improve your credit rating, sometimes by simply cancelling unused credit cards and there are other steps you might be able to take.

You should also correct any factual errors you spot on your credit file – speak to the CRA or ask the lender direct.

How your Experian Credit Report Score can help you

Your Experian Credit Score is a straight forward way of showing how lenders may view you, based on information in your Experian Credit Report. The better your credit score the better your chances are of getting a credit card, a loan or even a mortgage, along with great rates for each. Your Experian Credit Report allows you to see the information lenders use when carrying out a credit check.

If you have a low score or there is room to improve, checking your credit report can help you see whether the information on it is correct and understand what could be affecting your score.

    Free credit rating check

How to check your full credit report for FREE

    Free credit rating check

Equifax, Bowing to Public Pressure, Drops Credit-Freeze Fees, free credit.#Free #credit

    The New York Times

    Free credit

On Tuesday, the company said it would waive all fees until Nov. 21 for people who want to freeze their Equifax credit files. It will also refund any fees that anyone has paid since Thursday, though the company would not say whether this would be automatic.

Before the announcement on Tuesday, many of the people who tried to set up freezes after Equifax disclosed a breach of up to 143 million Social Security numbers, birth dates and other personal data discovered they had to pay Equifax for the privilege of protecting themselves from the breach. And they were not happy about it.

It’s a logical reaction: You did not ask Equifax to vacuum up data about you, and then resell it to marketers and loan sellers. And it is not your fault that the company could not keep that data safe. So why should you pay for a freeze, which keeps new creditors from seeing your credit file and thus can keep thieves from applying for credit in your name?

Somehow, that question did not occur to Equifax on Thursday, when it first announced the breach. It apparently thought a year of free credit monitoring would be enough to placate consumers. When I asked Equifax on Sunday why it was not making freezes free, Wyatt Jefferies, a spokesman, did not respond to that particular question.

Here are just some of the other questions I’ve asked Equifax. I’m still waiting for replies.

    1. Will temporarily lifting a freeze also be free until Nov. 21, or just placing a freeze?

    2. Why not make freezes and the lifting of those freezes free permanently for everyone?

    3. Failing that, why not make freezes and thaws free permanently for everyone whose data was stolen in this instance or, for that matter, anytime in the future?

    4. Why not pay Experian and TransUnion, the two other large consumer-credit reporting agencies, to freeze the credit files connected to every victim of the most recent Equifax breach? After all, that breach makes people vulnerable to thieves who apply for credit in victims’ names with lenders who check applicants’ credit histories only with Experian or TransUnion.

Equifax would not address that last one with me, but a reader named Kimberly Casey forwarded me an email exchange between her and Dann Adams, the president of Equifax’s global consumer solutions unit, where he apologized and said that a service to “lock” Equifax, Experian and TransUnion files simultaneously would be coming soon.

Interactive Feature | The Fallout From the Equifax Breach Hackers broke into Equifax, accessing data for 143 million Americans. Here’s what happened, how it’s being handled and what you can do to protect your information.

That might be helpful, given the trouble that so many of you have had getting any of the company’s websites or phone systems to work in recent days. (Please, keep trying. It’s worth the protection.) But let’s hope they give this new service away for free, for life, to all individuals who had their data stolen in this instance and that the lock will work identically to a freeze and not involve giving up the right to sue the companies.

I’ve asked Equifax repeatedly in recent days what phone number people should call to request a new PIN for thawing their freezes. On Sunday, Mr. Jefferies told me the company would stop issuing PINs based on the date the freeze was initiated and would instead issue new PINs to anyone who wanted to replace the old ones.

It is not clear, however, exactly how consumers can do this. Another reader today told me that a phone representative for the company said that people were going to have to cancel old freezes, request new ones, go unprotected for days and wait for new PINs to show up in the mail. It should not be that complicated.

Several of you have asked via email ([email protected], please keep the questions coming) and Twitter (@ronlieber) about TransUnion’s free TrueIdentity product, which the company is pushing on consumers who are considering a freeze. The company sure seems to want people to sign up for that product instead of freezing their files.

It’s not clear whether the mechanism TransUnion says it uses to “lock” files with that product provides the same protection as a freeze, or whether it is a lesser form of protection meant to shield TransUnion from some regulatory or legal perspective. A giant hat tip, however, to the person on Twitter who pointed out the company’s draconian terms and conditions.

Hey @ronlieber, @TransUnion credit lock TOS requires receipt of targeted offers has a #RipOffClause class ban.https://t.co/AdC1OXPZjI pic.twitter.com/dJneLggFYg

It is also unclear whether consumers’ use of the TrueIdentity product would make it easier for TransUnion to continue selling those consumers’ data (in the same way that Equifax and Experian do) than if they froze their files outright. I have repeatedly asked a TransUnion spokesman, David Blumberg, for clarification, but I have not received it yet.

I’m also waiting for answers about whether TransUnion and Experian will make freezes free for a period as Equifax has now done (or forever, for everyone, as all three agencies should do).

I reached out to Mr. Adams at Equifax to ask whether he would be resigning in the wake of the lackluster response to victims’ outrage. He responded by email, using an exclamation point for emphasis: “No, but for the record I am considering dropping my NYT subscription and picking up the Wash Post!”

In a statement on Monday on a website that Equifax created to deal with the most recent breach, the company included this: “We are listening to issues consumers have experienced and their suggestions. These are helping to further inform our actions, and we are now sharing regular updates on this website. Thank you for your continued patience and feedback as we continue to improve this process.”

Translation: They fell short, far short, even though they had weeks to prepare themselves for the reaction. They know it. And the correct response from all of us is a full-throated roar that is anything but patient.
